Stage Road is a fun ride with a twisty section headed over to San Gregorio. Stage is a favorite among motorcyclists. It starts out with several straights and then heads up a ridge through several switchbacks. Pavement is fresh, bumpy, and Great fun! |
South off of Pescadero Road is Cloverdale - Gazos Creek Road which parallels Highway 1 for 8 miles. Good alternative to this rather uneventful section of Highway 1. And that puts us back on HWY 1 where we'll head south for about 8 miles to Swanton RD. |

Swanton RD Don't know why it's here or
where it goes.
However it's a blast and it gets you off HWY 1 for a few miles. |
This
section of road is
about 7 miles long. That takes us back to HWY1. Where we start looking

![]() Boony Doon RD. Even if you try to ride this section in relax mode, you'll find that the road begs you to ride faster and faster. Before too long, you'll notice that you're going at a pretty spirited pace with a foot long grin on your face. Traction is good and scenery is typical
Santa Cruz Mountains. This road reminds me of nearby Hwy 9 minus
the traffic.

Empire grade is one of he best
parts of this ride.

Plenty of places to pass cars in this part. Watch out for the occasional deer and angry dog. The climb is not as steep as the first section and even flattens out for a bit, but as you get closer to the summit the road starts to twist as the elevation rises again. Once you see the sign "Truck Crossing 500 Ft." slow down and make a right turn on Jamison Creek road. If you went straight- Empire Grade dead ends a mile down the road |

Jamison Creek Road is my favorite part of this ride. You'll only need first and second gear for most of this road that taketh away all of the elevation gain that you picked up from Empire Grade and it does it in 4 miles. |
This drops us down into Boulder
Creek for our lunch break.

As you head out of Boulder Creek HWY 9 doesn't seem like much of a big deal. But as you work your way north through the next few towns Hwy 9 starts climbing its way back up he mountain. |

And you find yourself smiling as you twist you way back to Alices through the trees. Your back ay HWY 35 before you realize it. HWY 9 is always a favorite. |
