Lassen Volcanic

National  Park
Highway 89

-we’ll ride it on the way to our day 1 destination, lodging at Lake Almanor.  There will be NO COPS on this road, and very little traffic at all.  In fact, most of this ride will be the opposite of Tahoe, stop & go, traffic lights, CHP, etc.

By all means, this is a very scenic motorcycle road.

Ride up here, relax, and take a gander. Lassen is a great place.  No mistake about it.  Fun place to load the kids in the sidecar and have a looksy.   I have ridden through Lassen several times, maybe because of its placement on the map. Lassen is centrally located in northern California and surrounded by major roads.   A once active volcano is as good a destination as any for an afternoon ride.

little uphill

I like to explore.

I like to get out there and see what the world looks like from the back of a motorcycle.  And I love to go places where there are few other people.
At least for a few hours that is.

And one of the best parts of the entire day is the moment I set off.  The moment when the front tire hits the road. The motor is barely warm, the sound is new to my ears, I'm adjusting to this cold winter morning- and I'm off.

Another motorcycle journey.

note that road condition

La Porte Rd is this little squiggle on the map that uncommonly goes for some distance without interruption.  Good enough reason for me to try it out.  Nor have I ever read about it in any scenic guide book or road book.

Another reason to have a looksy.

For orientation, let's say that La Porte Rd is due east of Oroville in the Yuba foothills running up to the sleepy mountain town of La Porte.  It's about 70 miles in length from Marysville so it can make for a great morning ride.
